Mr. Law is a director at Abbot Downing. Prior to Abbot Downing, Mr. Law was a national wealth strategist for US Trust for 7 years, and was an estate planning attorney for 13 years. Prior to law school, Mr. Law was a certified public accountant with Price Waterhouse. Mr. Law is board certified by the Florida Bar as a specialist in Wills, Trusts and Estates Law. Mr. Law is currently the co-chair of the ABA-RPTE, Income and Transfer Tax Group’s Estate and Gift Tax Committee and chair of the IRA and Insurance committee for the Florida Bar’s Real Property Probate and Trust Law section. Mr. Law earned his undergraduate degree in accounting (honors) from Florida International University; his masters of science in taxation from the University of Miami; his juris doctor from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and his LLM (Tax) from the University of Florida (graduating at the top of his class). Mr. Law has been published in BNA-Bloomberg, The Florida Bar Journal, Estate Planning, Trusts & Estates Magazine, and has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, BNA-Bloomberg, Newsweek, and other national publications. Mr. Law was also co-editor for the Florida Bar Journal’s Tax Section. Most recently, Mr. Law has been a primary author on a number of white papers on the topic of portability, and has lead the effort on behalf of the ABA-RPTE with respect to comments to Treasury on the recently issued regulations. Mr. Law will be presenting on the topic of portability at the Heckerling Institute in January 2014.
