Ave Maria Scholarships

The School of Law annually awards more than 70 scholarships to members of the entering class. Scholarships range in value between $4,000 per year and full-tuition. Scholarship awards are of two types - academic excellence awards and service and leadership awards. Both types of awards are renewable for all three years of law school.

Applicants for admission who wish to receive consideration for scholarship aid are not required to complete an application, as each admitted candidate is considered for assistance immediately following the Admission Committee's decision to admit the candidate to the School of Law. In most cases, scholarship awards are communicated to the candidate in the letter of acceptance. To receive consideration for scholarship assistance an applicant should apply for admission at the earliest possible date prior to April 1. Entering students are eligible to receive both types of awards, although the Scholarship Committee generally does not provide awards in excess of full-tuition.

Academic Excellence Scholarships
Academic Excellence scholarships are provided to entering students whose academic records suggest that they will excel academically as evidenced by performance at the undergraduate level, results of the Law School Admission Test, and other relevant indicators of academic ability.

* Please note that the stated criteria for Academic Excellence Scholarships are adjusted according to each admitted candidate's particular circumstances (e.g., graduate degree; rigor of undergraduate courses or particular circumstances; upward grade trends; length of time since graduation, etc.) The Scholarship Committee, similar to the Admissions Committee, does not employ a strictly numerical approach to the assessment of an admitted candidate's potential for academic excellence.

Renewal of Awards: Scholarships provided by the School of Law are renewed for years two and three at the law school contingent upon the recipient's academic performance at the end of the first and second year. The requirement for full renewal is a minimum GPA 3.0 (approximately the middle of the class). When a recipient is below the required 3.0 minimum, the award may be revoked in its entirety. In limited circumstances, the amount of the initial award may be reduced at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee, depending on the student's class standing and other relevant information.
