Maureen M. Milliron
Visiting Associate Professor of Law
Professor M.M. Milliron teaches legal analysis, writing, and research at Ave Maria School of Law and brings more than two decades of experience in legal education and appellate advocacy. Her professional background includes insurance defense, medical malpractice, employment law, governmental immunity, and tort litigation, with extensive experience handling appeals before state and federal courts, including the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Biography
Professor M.M. Milliron teaches legal analysis, writing, and research at Ave Maria School of Law and brings more than two decades of experience in legal education, litigation, and appellate advocacy. Her teaching emphasizes practical legal writing, advocacy skills, and helping students develop strong analytical foundations for the practice of law.
Professor Milliron earned her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Michigan State College of Law in 1993 and received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan in 1988. During law school, she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Detroit College of Law Review and received numerous academic honors, including the Elizabeth A. Oehmke Memorial Award and the William B. Giles Award for Academic Excellence.
She began her legal career practicing insurance defense litigation and appellate advocacy. Her practice included medical malpractice defense, EMS and first responder defense, governmental immunity, employment law, no-fault litigation, and general tort litigation. Throughout her career in private practice, Professor Milliron handled and argued numerous appeals, including matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
In addition to her legal practice, Professor Milliron has taught law students for more than 20 years at institutions including Michigan State College of Law, Wayne State University Law School, Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and Ave Maria School of Law. Her work in legal education has focused extensively on legal writing, research, appellate advocacy, and skills-based instruction.
Professor Milliron has been an active contributor to the legal writing academic community through presentations, workshops, and conferences across the country. She has spoken at Legal Writing Institute workshops and conferences, LexisNexis national meetings and summits, and continuing legal education programs focused on advocacy, litigation skills, and technology in legal practice.
She is admitted to practice before the State Bar of Michigan, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michiga

Professional Experience
Professor M.M. Milliron began her legal career practicing insurance defense litigation and appellate advocacy. Her practice experience included medical malpractice defense, EMS and first responder defense, governmental immunity, employment law, no-fault litigation, and general tort litigation. Throughout her litigation career, she wrote and argued numerous appeals, including matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
In addition to her legal practice, Professor Milliron has taught for more than 20 years at several law schools, including Michigan State College of Law, Wayne State University Law School, Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and Ave Maria School of Law. Her teaching has focused extensively on legal analysis, writing, research, and advocacy.
Professor Milliron has also been an active presenter at legal writing conferences, workshops, and professional development programs nationwide, including presentations for the Legal Writing Institute and LexisNexis conferences and summits.
