2026 Commencement Speaker: Carlos G. Muñiz

Ave Maria School of Law is pleased to announce Justice Carlos G. Muñiz , as the 2026 Commencement Speaker Justice Carlos G. Muñiz was appointed to the Florida Supreme Court by Governor Ron DeSantis on January 22, 2019, becoming the 89th Justice since statehood was granted in 1845. Justice Muñiz was elected by his colleagues to serve as Florida’s 57th Chief Justice beginning July 1, 2022. Prior to joining the Court, he served on the staff of Secretary Betsy DeVos as the presidentially-appointed, Senate-confirmed general counsel of the United States Department of Education.

In addition to working as an attorney in the federal government and in private practice, Justice Muñiz had an extensive career in Florida state government. He served as the deputy attorney general and chief of staff to Attorney General Pam Bondi; as deputy chief of staff and counsel in the Office of the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives; as general counsel of the Department of Financial Services; and as deputy general counsel to Governor Jeb Bush.

Justice Muñiz is a graduate of the University of Virginia and of Yale Law School. After law school, he clerked for Judge José A. Cabranes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and for Judge Thomas A. Flannery of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Justice Muñiz grew up in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. He lives in Tallahassee with his wife, Katie Muñiz, and their three children.

Student Graduation Speaker: Lillian Kennedy

Lillian Kennedy, daughter of Kevin and Jean Marie Kennedy, is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Lillian earned her Bachelor of Arts, majoring in history and psychology, from the University of Scranton.

During her time at Ave Maria School of Law, Lillian earned the St. Thomas More Academic Scholarship, served as a Dean’s Delegate, and held the position of Managing Editor for the Law Review. She also served as a Teaching Assistant for Legal Writing I, Legal Writing II, and Commercial Law. Lillian had the opportunity to intern at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania—and for Becker & Poliakoff. After Lillian takes the Bar, she will be clerking at the 2nd District Court of Appeals in Wisconsin.

Lillian is eternally grateful to God for His guidance throughout her legal studies and thankful for the unwavering support from her family, professors, and classmates. She is endlessly appreciative of Ave Maria School of Law for the dedication its faculty has to its Catholic mission, which has fostered in her true faith and instilled the Catholic values she intends to carry throughout her legal career.
