Biography

Professor Mollie Murphy is a member of the faculty at Ave Maria School of Law and one of the institution’s original professors. She teaches and writes in the areas of antitrust law, torts, civil procedure, complex litigation, class actions, and personal jurisdiction.

Professor Murphy earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 1980 and received her Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from St. Mary’s College in 1977, where she graduated as valedictorian.

Following law school, Professor Murphy served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Edward A. Tamm of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. She subsequently practiced law in the Washington, D.C. office of Jones Day, where she focused on antitrust matters and complex civil litigation.

Professor Murphy later entered academia, beginning her teaching career at Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She subsequently served for several years on the faculty of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law before joining the founding faculty of Ave Maria School of Law.

Her scholarship has focused extensively on class actions, civil procedure, complex litigation, and jurisdictional theory. Her work has appeared in several respected law reviews and academic journals, including the Baylor Law Review, Kansas Law Review, Kentucky Law Journal, and Notre Dame Lawyer.

Professor Murphy is admitted to practice in Ohio, the District of Columbia, and before the Supreme Court of the United States.

Professional Experience

Professor Mollie Murphy began her legal career as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Edward A. Tamm of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. She subsequently practiced law in the Washington, D.C. office of Jones Day, where her work focused primarily on antitrust law and complex civil litigation.

Professor Murphy later transitioned into legal education, beginning her teaching career at Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She subsequently served for several years on the faculty of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law before becoming one of the original members of the Ave Maria School of Law faculty
