Professional Journey
After passing the Florida Bar Exam, I sought to practice employment law but initially faced challenges finding positions in that specific field. I successfully applied for an HR Specialist role at an automotive manufacturing company and progressed to an HR Manager role within five years, which subsequently led to my application for my current position with Airbus.
Notable Achievement
A significant achievement in my career involved successfully managing two separate campaigns to prevent unionization at two different facilities. In both instances, the union was unsuccessful in garnering enough support to even initiate a formal vote. I find it particularly rewarding to leverage my experience with unionized workforces to help ensure employees have a clear and accurate understanding of what union representation entails.
How My JD Adds Value
My legal education significantly enhances my contributions within Human Resources in several key areas. Primarily, it provides a strong foundation in the legal standards governing employers, which is critical for conducting thorough investigations and making sound recommendations regarding employment status. Additionally, it offers a deep understanding of labor law and the compliance standards necessary to ensure both the company and the union are held accountable.
Advice to Current Students
I advise aspiring legal professionals not to feel constrained by the traditional path of private practice, as it is not the right fit for everyone. My own transition into Human Resources was unexpected, yet it is a decision I do not regret. The key is to find work you genuinely enjoy and approach it with passion.
